Wellness Review: Desirables Massage Candle

It’s getting chilly ️🧊🤍

I find the colder months can be a little numbing to the senses. When I start to feel a chill coming on, I like to reawaken my body’s perception with some warm temperature play.

A warm massage candle like this one from Desirables is the perfect balance of warmth and moisture needed to bring cold bodies back to life!

When I test products like this one, I like to make it into a bit of a ritual. I started by taking a shower to wash off the day before I crawled into bed (with a fresh set of sheets for extra luxury, obviously).

I lit the candle and waited fifteen minutes as per the instructions. Because soy wax and oil have a relatively low melting point, it doesn’t take very long for liquid to start to pool on the candle. This low melting point also means that the oil itself won’t be too hot when you pour it on your skin.

You might have seen movies (or porn) where wax is dripped on someone’s body while the wick is still lit - this is a big NO for beginners (and always carries an element of risk). After the fifteen minutes were up, I blew out the flame and waited a little less than the recommended two minutes before getting started.

I hadn’t really noticed the smell of the candle until this point - the candle emitted a soft, leather and earth scent. I love the richness and I think it’s neutral enough that it wouldn’t turn off masc partners.

I started by pouring the liquid on an insensitive part of my body - the palm of my hand. It poured warm but not hot; if you follow the instructions, you definitely won’t experience any burning or heat discomfort. The sensation was pleasant and SUPER erotic (something that can sometimes be missing in solo play) so I decided to move to my chest, stomach and thighs. Again, I found the sensation pleasant and a little more surprising on more delicate skin.

The wax had quite a thick consistency and I would therefor suggest laying out a towel if you care about your sheets. However, it’s GREAT for massages - my skin stayed nice and lubed up for a good 15 minutes and I still felt moisturized the next morning.

One thing I will note is that the wax doesn’t remain liquid for that long - ten minutes after I blew out the candle it was a much thicker consistency and dried in droplets on my skin when I poured it. This thickening/hardening is pretty standard for this type of product. If you light the candle again it warms up quickly, but be careful and make sure to test the liquid on an insensitive body part every time you reheat it.

Overall, the product smells great and delivers great moisture for massages. This is also wonderful if you’re interested in wax play or temperature play and are looking for somewhere to begin. Wax and oil are a bit wet and messy (WAM) so if you don’t like oily sensations or textures this is probably not for you.

Most people think of massage candles as partner-play products, but I think this candle is a great way to reintroduce some decadence into your self pleasure routine!
